Dorset House Joins Forces with Nursery for Coronation Party

Dorset House Nursing Home welcomed nursery children from Blue Giraffe Childcare in Droitwich Spa to celebrate the Coronation in the home’s gardens.

Accompanied by families and staff, the residents and children collaborated on activities from icing Coronation biscuits, crafting crowns to planting sunflower seeds, before dancing to a disco in the ground’s summer house. Residents Fred, Jill and Barbara were eager to greet the children outside, whilst other residents observed the children playing from the garden room. The Dorset House Kitchen Team baked an appetising spread of cupcakes and scones which were quickly eaten by the children.

Lisa Davies, Lifestyle Coordinator at Dorset House, said:
“Our residents were overjoyed to see so many children on the grass laughing and playing in our stunning gardens. It’s great for the residents to meet new people from our community, and bringing together different generations has such a positive effect on the both the children and the residents.  The children said they had a “super-duper” time. The Coronation is such a significant moment in history which is great for the residents to share with young children, who will hopefully remember long into the future.”

A team-member from Blue Giraffe Childcare, commented:
“We have a lovely link to our local care home - the children go down to the home every week and enjoy spending time with the residents, doing arts and crafts, story time, singing and dancing. Yesterday, we took the whole nursery for the joint [Coronation] celebrations. This is what we call intergenerational learning!”
