Hampton and Gwen Pay Tribute to The Queen

Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford Nursing Homes on Hampton Park Road have held a commemorative ceremony to honour the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The ceremony took place on the day of Her Majesty’s funeral, 19th September, and united residents and staff to lay a floral wreath as they took time to reflect on The Queen’s unwavering service to our nation.

The loss of The Queen is deeply felt by older people in care, many of whom remember Her Majesty’s coronation and have watched her forge a path through changing times. Residents and staff members gathered in the home’s grounds as the Home Manager placed the wreath next to the Jubilee pear tree, which was planted in June as part of ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative’.

Home Manager, Louise Craddock, said:
“We were honoured to lay a wreath in tribute to Her Majesty The Queen. It was important to our residents that they were able to pay their respects to The Queen and her dedicated life of service. It was a moving day for us all.”

Everyone then watched the televised funeral service before enjoying a quintessentially British afternoon tea prepared by Head Chef, Lori. The homes’ lounges were decorated with Union Jacks and a spectacular floral display took pride of place having been delicately arranged in honour of The Queen by Health Care Assistant, Angela, who previously worked as a florist.

During the period of mourning, a portrait of the monarch was displayed in the home for residents to pay their respects. Staff members and residents wore black lapel ribbons - a symbol of mourning, while an engaging programme of Royal-themed activities enabled residents to reminisce on The Queen’s illustrious reign.
