Hampton Resident Exhibits Work at Dementia Art Show

Resident Alan Holloway from Hampton Grange Nursing Home in Hereford has exhibited artwork at a Dementia Art Show taking place at the Tourist Office on Corn Square in Leominster. Attended by Alan’s wife, carers and fellow residents, the exhibition is running from 1st to 30th April, from 9:30am to 4pm on Mondays to Saturdays.

Born in 1948 in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, Alan began drawing from the age of 5 on old blueprints brought home by his father. Whilst accomplishing his Art A-Level, he started experimenting with acrylics, having been more familiar with oil paints.  Quite the nomad, Alan has lived in New Zealand and New Guinea. The stunning surrounding scenery of New Zealand inspired a move to painting landscapes with watercolours, and whilst living in New Guinea, he enjoyed painting sunsets, developing his style of using strong tonal colour.

Alan moved back to the UK in 1982 to live in Kent, before moving to Rutland, Peterborough, and most recently nearby Eardisland in North Herefordshire. Art shows across the counties have exhibited his work, with many of his creations winning prizes.

Nicky Thomas, the Lifestyle Coordinator at Hampton Grange, said:
“Alan was so proud to see all this work in one room and thoroughly enjoyed talking us through every piece of work in detail. Fellow resident Annette, also a talented artist, was thrilled to see Alan’s artwork.  Nurse Assistant Jayme and I came back with several purchases! At Hampton we try to support our residents’ pastimes as much as possible to promote a fulfilling lifestyle and a sense of individuality.”
