Roden Hall Commemorates The Queen

Roden Hall Care Home, situated midway between Telford and Shrewsbury, has held a commemorative ceremony to bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth II. The ceremony took place on the day of Her Majesty’s funeral, 19th September, and united residents and staff members to lay a floral wreath as they took time to reflect on The Queen’s unwavering service to our nation.

The loss of The Queen is deeply felt by older people in care, many of whom remember Her Majesty’s coronation and have watched her forge a path through vast periods of change. Residents Frank and Pauline were bestowed the honour of laying the wreath next to the Jubilee tree, which was planted in June as part of ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ initiative. A tearful Frank, who served The Queen as an Army Policeman, and once had the privilege of meeting Her Majesty while servicing a motorbike, said:
“It was an honour to be asked to lay a wreath in the Roden Hall gardens, and I was immensely proud to give one last salute to Her Majesty”.

Residents and team members watched the televised funeral service before enjoying a delicious spread of food and refreshments. During the period of mourning, a portrait of the monarch was displayed in the home for residents to pay their respects, while a Book of Condolence offered residents an opportunity to write their own personal tributes. Staff members and residents wore black lapel ribbons - a symbol of mourning, while an engaging programme of Royal-themed activities enabled residents to reminisce on The Queen’s illustrious reign.
