Roden Welcomes Children from High Ercall Primary School for Intergenerational Activities

Roden Hall Care Home in Telford have welcomed local primary school children for intergenerational activities with its residents.

The children from High Ercall Primary School Nursery, aged between 3 and 4, sang nursery rhymes, read stories and produced arts and crafts with the residents, before everyone tucked into some sweets and cakes. The children were particularly taken with resident Frank, who is gifted with children, commenting that they would like to take him back to school with them. Meanwhile, the other residents were highly impressed with the children’s painting.

Research shows that uniting younger and older people for activities is mutually beneficial. The children learn care and empathy towards older people, while the residents become more engaged - boosting their mood and overall wellbeing.

Karen Robinson, the Lifestyle Coordinator at Roden Hall, said:
“Everyone had a ball when the children visited the home. It was a joy to see the residents interacting with the children, especially Frank who adores children. We all enjoyed the chosen story ‘We’re going on a Bear Hunt’ – and we are hoping to routinely welcome the children back for more intergenerational activities with our residents.”

Operated by Rotherwood Healthcare, Roden Hall offers award-winning Residential and Nursing Care.
