At
Dorset House, residents, families, volunteers and team members walked and wheeled together to Droitwich Lido Park and back, raising money for
Walk Wheel Cycle Trust. The home also marked the start of
The Rotherwood Walk, with colleagues setting off for Colwall Care Home in Herefordshire to raise money for
Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Mayor of Droitwich Spa Sue Brazier joined the team before they set off to wish them well.
The challenge was inspired by Jack Gibson’s two-year work exploring exercise, training and dementia, making the walk particularly meaningful. Jack set a fundraising target of £500, which the team proudly surpassed, raising £520 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Across Herefordshire,
Kington Court enjoyed a gentle walk followed by a game of croquet in support of
Open Arms Kington, while
Colwall Care Home turned its challenge into a team effort, completing 19 relay laps in just over an hour and raising money for
Colwall Community Church. At
Hampton Grange and Gwen Walford, music brought residents together for a day of movement, dancing and fun in support of
St Michael’s Hospice, while
Lynhales Hall combined its sponsored walk with a BBQ, giving residents, families and team members the chance to enjoy time together while raising money for
Macmillan Cancer Support.In Shropshire,
Roden Hall set out to walk 10km around the home, with residents and team members encouraging one another along the way. The target was surpassed, with resident
Peter completing 600 metres himself.
At
St George’s Park, team members took on a sponsored walk up and down The Wrekin in support of
Hope House & Tŷ Gobaith., bringing plenty of laughter and team spirit to the challenge.
Sharen Guise, Chief Operating Officer at Rotherwood Healthcare, said: “It was wonderful to see our homes embracing National Fitness Day in their own way. From gentle walks and relay challenges to music, dancing and bigger challenges, everyone found their own way to get involved. It was a fantastic opportunity to get moving, have fun and celebrate wellbeing together.”
The activities form part of Rotherwood Healthcare’s wider approach to wellbeing, encouraging residents to stay active in ways that reflect their individual interests, abilities and goals, while creating opportunities to connect, enjoy themselves and make meaningful moments together.
