There was plenty to celebrate at Colwall Care Home as resident David marked his remarkable 100th birthday, surrounded by family, friends and team members. One of the highlights of the day was receiving a birthday telegram from Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, making the occasion even more memorable.
David's 100th birthday celebrated not only an incredible milestone but also a lifetime dedicated to caring for others. A retired ENT Consultant Surgeon, he spent decades working within the NHS before retiring from Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in 1991.
Born in Bristol in 1926, David qualified as an ENT Consultant Surgeon (FRCS) in 1955 before building a distinguished career across Bristol, London, Edinburgh and Birmingham. Alongside his work as a surgeon, he served as an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons, wrote eight books, published more than 50 academic papers and lectured internationally.
Since moving to Colwall Care Home earlier this year, David has settled in well and was delighted to celebrate his special day with those closest to him. Reflecting on reaching 100, David shared that the milestone felt especially meaningful, as many members of his family had sadly passed away before reaching the age of 80, making it an achievement he never expected to celebrate.
