Just a few weeks after opening its new nursing floor, Colwall Care Home is already seeing the difference dedicated nursing care can make to residents and their families.
The new floor was officially opened with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony, with resident Carole doing the honours. As Carole has her own room on the floor, it was a particularly meaningful moment for her and everyone at Colwall.
Carole said:
“I was very pleased to be asked to cut the ribbon and officially open the new floor. It was a lovely moment, especially knowing I have my own room here. I was very honoured to do it.”
The new nursing floor provides 24-hour nursing support for residents with more complex or ongoing healthcare needs, with care tailored around each resident's individual needs, routines and preferences.
For resident Chris, having nurses close by provides reassurance while still allowing him to enjoy activities and spend time with everyone throughout the home.
“I’m really happy up here. The room is lovely; the views are fantastic and there’s plenty of space to relax. I still head downstairs for activities and to spend time with everyone, so it feels like the best of both worlds.”
The floor has been designed to support everyday life, with a dedicated dining room and activity room alongside a large lounge, bar and library. Residents can continue to enjoy meals, activities, socialising and time with friends and family, while also having access to dedicated nursing support.
Home Manager Shelley Hearn said:
“Opening the nursing floor has meant we can support more people who need nursing care, while still giving them the opportunity to be part of everyday life at Colwall. Our focus is always on understanding each resident as an individual and providing care that supports both their health needs and the things that are important to them.”
The opening of the nursing floor expands the range of care available at Colwall, giving residents and their families greater choice when nursing support is needed, while helping residents continue to enjoy the relationships, routines and experiences that make life meaningful.
