Jennifer’s eyes lit up when she saw Cloudy, evoking cherished memories of her riding days. The horse was welcomed into the care home car park and greeted by residents and staff. Overwhelmed with joy, Jennifer showered Cloudy with freshly cut carrots after making a special request to the Kitchen Team. Jennifer’s connection with Cloudy goes back several years to when she purchased the horse at a horse sale in Herefordshire. Their last encounter was at the prestigious Chatsworth Horse Trials in 2022. Jennifer hails from a family which has bred horses for generations, specialising in eventing and dressage competitions.
Based in Eardisley, Herefordshire, Harwood Eventing is run by Louise Harwood, a champion eventer herself. While Jennifer is being cared for at Kington Court, Cloudy is being looked after through Harwood Eventing and taking part in competitions.
Natasha Davies, the Lifestyle Coordinator at Kington Court expressed her thanks to Harwood Eventing, commenting:
“Thank you for making the reunion between Jennifer and Cloudy possible. Jennifer was overjoyed to introduce her four-legged friend to fellow residents. Welcoming animals to the care home positively impacts the residents' lives, creating joy, nostalgia, and a sense of companionship. Seeing Jennifer with her horse certainly highlighted the incredible bond between humans and animals.”
A representative from Harwood Eventing said:
“When Cloudy went to visit his owner, Lady Jennifer, at the care home, it was the first time she had been able to see him since Chatsworth Horse Trials last year. Thank you so much to the home for being so welcoming and helpful. She was so pleased to see him, and Cloudy loved the carrots and attention, too!”
