Roden Hall Care Home in Shropshire opened its doors to families, friends, and members of the local community for an event to mark Silver Sunday and Grandparents Day on 2nd October. Aimed at combating loneliness in the older generation, Silver Sunday is a national day for older people, uniting people of all generations for a day of fun activities.

The event was ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed with staff suitably dressed in ‘Queen of Hearts’ and ‘Mad-Hatter’ costumes, while the home was adorned with playing card decorations. Guests enjoyed the ‘Rabbit Hole Raffle’ and ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ with food and beverages marked with ‘Eat Me’ and ‘Drink Me’. Residents, families and staff played croquet using inflatable flamingos, and hedgehog pom-poms, which were hand-crafted by residents in the lead up to the event.

Nina McPhee, Home Manager of Roden Hall, said:
“We had a great afternoon bringing together residents, families and friends for fun-filled activities and it was especially heart-warming to see our residents with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Grandparent’s Day.”
