Grant Roberts was named Registered Nurse of the Year, Jack Eccleston Chef of the Year, and Sijo George International Carer of the Year, while Karen Robinson was named runner-up for Activity Co-ordinator of the Year.
The awards recognised the individual contribution each team member makes to the lives of the people they care for, from supporting residents through important family occasions and responding quickly when someone’s health changes, to creating memorable dining experiences and helping people continue to enjoy the things they love.
At St George’s Park, Registered Nurse Grant Roberts was recognised for his clinical knowledge and calm approach to care. His nomination highlighted how he noticed subtle changes in a resident’s condition and acted quickly to ensure they received the medical support they needed.
At Roden Hall, Head Chef Jack Eccleston was recognised for his approach to making mealtimes personal and meaningful. From Japanese-inspired evenings and steak nights to homemade blackberry ice cream made using fruit picked by residents, Jack takes time to understand the people he cooks for and incorporates their preferences into his menus.
International Carer of the Year winner Sijo George was recognised for the strong relationships he has built with residents and their families. When one resident wanted to attend her granddaughter’s wedding, Sijo accompanied her on his day off, helping her to be part of an important family occasion.
Karen Robinson, Activity Co-ordinator at Roden Hall, was named runner-up for Activity Co-ordinator of the Year. Karen was recognised for the way she creates opportunities for residents to enjoy meaningful experiences, including taking two residents receiving palliative care to the seaside for fish and chips and a paddle in the sea. She also uses music, humour and encouragement to help residents try new activities, including introducing one resident to Boccia.
