The home was rated ‘Good’ across all five key lines of enquiry — Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-Led — reflecting the high standards of care and support delivered to residents and their families. Gwen Walford Care Home provides Residential and Nursing Care, supporting people with a wide range of needs in a safe, welcoming, and person-centred environment.
During the inspection, CQC inspectors spoke with residents and relatives, observed care delivery, and used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI) to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences of people who were unable to communicate verbally.
Feedback from residents and relatives was overwhelmingly positive, with staff described as “excellent,” “quiet and gentle,” and “kind and caring.” Residents and their families said they felt safe living at the home and confident approaching staff, nurses, or the management team for support or guidance whenever needed. People felt listened to and reassured that any feedback shared was handled appropriately.
The inspection also highlighted how residents are supported to maintain and promote their independence, with opportunities to participate in a range of activities if they wish. People told inspectors they were consulted about their care, offered genuine choice, and that staff took the time to understand and respect their individual preferences.
Home Manager, Rebecca Protheroe, said:
“We are delighted that Gwen Walford Care Home has been rated ‘Good’ in all areas by the CQC. This report is a real reflection of the compassion, professionalism, and dedication of the entire team.
