Glyn and Margaret Owen were married on 29 December 1962 at St Tecla Church, Llandegelley. They first met a year earlier at a dance held at Presteigne Memorial Hall. More than six decades on, they remain side by side and recently marked their milestone anniversary surrounded by family, enjoying a celebratory cake with staff at Lynhales Hall.
After their marriage, Glyn and Margaret built a life together through many years of farming across Mid Wales, including time at The Garth Farm in Nantmel, Bryn Thomas in Penybont, and later Cwm-Rhocas, before retiring to Bryn Mawr, Penybont. Farming was very much a shared way of life, with both working on the land. Alongside this, Margaret ran a bed and breakfast and raised turkeys for Christmas, while Glyn was involved with the Builth Grasslands Society, raised sheepdog pups, competed in sheepdog trials, and hosted the Welsh National Sheepdog Trials in 2013.
Family has always been at the heart of their lives. They had three children, Glyn, Mark and Sue, and are proud grandparents to nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, with two more expected later this year. Despite the heartbreak of losing their eldest son in 2021, their strong bond and the support of their family have remained a constant source of comfort.
In recent years, the couple spent time in a nursing home near Swansea, which proved challenging due to the distance from family. With the support of a family friend, Clinical Lead Annie Duggan, they were able to relocate closer to home and moved to Lynhales Hall in August 2025, where they continue to live together.
Reflecting on their long marriage, their story is one of shared values, hard work and unwavering companionship. Glyn stated: “They said it wouldn’t happen, but look at us now. We’ve never quarrelled; we always sorted things out together.” Margaret added: “I don’t know what the secret is, but we did everything together. He worked outside and I worked inside.”
Annie Duggan, Clinical Lead at Lynhales Hall Nursing Home, said:
“It has been a real privilege to support Glyn and Margaret as they celebrated such a special milestone. Over the past 12 months, I’ve become a familiar face in their lives, and through my friendship with Sue, it has been wonderful to get to know them as a couple. Their story is beautiful”.
