Gwen Walford Nursing Home in Hereford proudly participated in Make Music Day on June 21st, an annual celebration of music-making in communities worldwide. Originating in France in 1982, Make Music Day promotes the joy of live music, breaking down barriers and fostering community spirit. This event has expanded to over 125 countries, bringing people together through the universal language of music.

Residents and staff at Gwen Walford came together to plan a unique and entertaining activity to commemorate their favourite albums and artists. Embracing the day's spirit, they re-created famous album covers, with residents starring as the models. Iconic figures such as the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, and the Queen of Pop, Madonna, were among the celebrated artists, adding a touch of nostalgia and fun.

"Music holds a special place in the hearts of our residents," said Nicky, Lifestyle Coordinator at Gwen Walford. "It evokes powerful emotions and memories, especially for those with dementia. Music often inspires movement and joy, making it the perfect therapeutic activity. Our album cover re-creation project brought smiles to everyone's faces and fostered a deep sense of connection and reminiscence."

The day was filled with laughter, singing, and dancing as residents and staff enjoyed the atmosphere. The event highlighted not only the therapeutic benefits of music but also Gwen Walford's commitment to providing enriching activities that enhance the well-being of their residents.
