Residential Care in Colwall from Rotherwood Healthcare

Residential care provides a safe and comfortable place to live with support available 24 hours a day.

At Rotherwood’s Colwall Care Home, that support is shaped around the individual. Someone may need help getting dressed in the morning or moving safely around the home. Others might appreciate support with personal care or everyday routines.

We take time to understand how each resident likes to live their life. That includes their routines, preferences, interests and personal history.

The aim isn’t to take over. It’s to provide the right level of support so residents can continue doing the things they can and want to do for themselves.

Residential care is designed for people who can no longer, or would prefer not to, manage entirely on their own at home.

It provides accommodation, meals, personal care, support with medication and with everyday living. Team members are also available throughout the day and night if help is needed.

Unlike nursing care, residential care is generally suitable for people who do not require regular clinical care from a registered nurse. For residents whose needs are more closely linked to memory loss or dementia, our dedicated dementia care may be more appropriate.

For some people, moving into residential care follows a gradual change in their circumstances. For others, it may begin as a short stay to recover after a hospital admission, or a period of respite care, before becoming a longer-term arrangement. For others still, a fall, illness or increasing difficulty at home prompts the conversation.

An individual care assessment can help establish the right level of support.

There isn’t always one obvious moment when someone needs residential care. You might notice that your parent is finding washing or dressing more difficult. Stairs may have become challenging, or preparing regular meals might take more effort than it once did.

For someone else, the biggest change may be social. A person who once had a busy life may now spend long periods alone, particularly if a partner or close friends have died. Residential care can provide practical support alongside regular companionship and opportunities to spend time with other people.

It’s not only the person needing care whose wellbeing matters. Looking after a parent alongside work, family and other commitments can take its toll. Many families reach a point where they can no longer provide the level of support their loved one needs alone. Residential care can ease that pressure, while making sure your loved one continues to receive the right care.

Life at Rotherwood’s Colwall Care Home

Our Colwall Care Home is a modern, purpose-built home with 60 private en-suite bedrooms. Each room has its own wet room, and many bedrooms also have a kitchenette, so residents can make their own tea, coffee or a light snack whenever they choose. The home also has a lift and wheelchair access for residents with reduced mobility.

Residents can bring their own furniture where appropriate and surround themselves with photographs, books and treasured possessions. From the communal areas and many bedrooms, residents can enjoy beautiful views across to the Malvern Hills.

There are plenty of places to spend time outside the bedroom, too. Colwall has cinema rooms, library areas, a craft room, a café and two pubs. There is also a hair and nail salon and landscaped outdoor space.

Our Lifestyle Coordinators arrange activities around residents’ interests and abilities. That could mean gardening or crafts one day and a visiting singer or trip out another. Taking part is always a choice. A quiet afternoon with a book or coffee with a friend can be just as important.

Why Choose Rotherwood for Residential Care in Colwall?

A good residential care home should provide more than practical support. It should be somewhere your loved one feels known, comfortable and valued.

At Rotherwood Healthcare, our approach starts with the individual. We learn about each resident’s life, interests and preferences alongside understanding their care needs.

Colwall is led by Home Manager Shelley Hearn, who brings nearly 30 years' experience in elderly care. Her experience includes dementia care, training and care-home management.

The home is also registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). As a newer service, Colwall has not yet received a CQC inspection rating. There is currently no confirmed timeframe for when the home will receive its first full CQC inspection. However, CQC representatives have visited the home as part of the registration process and were satisfied with the policies, procedures and environment in place.

In addition, Colwall conducts its own internal audits in line with CQC standards to support ongoing monitoring and continuous improvement. These audits can be made available to view during a visit to the home.
