Fred shared his love of gardening with his wife, and it is his passion for gardening that inspired the creation of a memorial garden within the grounds. Since joining Dorset House in 2022, Fred has forged many new friendships, through conversations, and getting involved in the occasional board game with his fellow residents. However, through gardening, he has built rapport with the care home’s Gardener, Andrew, who takes the time to speak to Fred and exchange gardening tips.

“The garden is a sanctuary for Fred, where he finds comfort in moments of longing or grief, helping him feel closer to Margaret and more at peace. We recognise the power of conversation and connection on mental health, and the garden has been a great source of conversation and connection for Fred”.
