Discover Rotherwood’s Wellness Programme

1

Introducing Rotherwood’s Wellness Programme, a pioneering initiative designed to enhance the health and well-being of our residents.

What sets our programme apart from other care home plans is its exclusive focus on isometric training, an approach grounded in proven theory and extensive research. In collaboration with wellness coaches and external professionals, we’ve developed an inclusive programme that emphasises isometric exercises and fitness challenges tailored to improve health.

What is Isometric Training?

Isometric exercises involve muscle contractions without any movement in the surrounding joints, making this a safer and more effective method for building strength. This type of training is achieved by applying a resistive force to the active limb, countering the muscle’s natural motion. The reduced movement and low impact on the joints make isometric training an ideal option for the frail, immobile, or those at risk of falling. Additionally, it serves as an excellent bridging activity for individuals recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, stimulating muscle growth and activating brain areas associated with muscle function.

Key Benefits of Our Programme:

  • Muscle Strength: Strengthen muscles safely, minimising complex movements and reducing the risk of falls and fractures.
  • Enhanced Mobility: Improve movement and mobility in older adults, contributing to a longer, healthier life.
  • Joint Stability: Stabilise joints to alleviate pain from conditions like arthritis while enhancing overall mobility.
  • Cardiovascular Health: Boost heart rate and improve blood circulation for better cardiovascular health.
  • Balance and Coordination: Enhance balance and coordination, significantly reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
  • Mood Enhancement: Promote the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters, leading to improved mood and reduced stress and anxiety.
  • Cognitive Function: Support cognitive function and slow cognitive decline, particularly beneficial for individuals living with dementia.
  • Agitation Reduction: Help alleviate restlessness and agitation often experienced by those living with dementia.
  • Pre-emptive Care: Protect, maintain, and improve health proactively, adding years to life and life to years, rather than waiting for individuals to become unwell or lose ability and independence.
  • Rehabilitation and Enablement Support: Rebuild strength, stamina, and confidence during short stays, positively impacting mental wellbeing and fostering a sense of independence.

We look forward to sharing more about this comprehensive initiative, which promotes a fulfilling, enriching lifestyle for all our residents.
