Gathering in the newly refurbished lounge in the Acorn Unit, ten of the children read stories to the residents as they drank tea. Residents Terry and Michael especially enjoyed speaking to the children about school and quizzed them on their favourite stories. The children were amused that the residents weren’t familiar with many of the books they had read. However, one book which united the residents and children alike, was ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl.
Holly Preece, the Lifestyle Coodinator at St George’s Park:
“It was great to bring together our care home residents and the school children to celebrate books. The children and the residents thoroughly enjoyed reading together and it was great to see the positive effects of intergenerational activities in action”.
