The loss of The Queen is deeply felt by older people in care, many of whom remember Her Majesty’s coronation and have watched The Queen forge a path through periods of change. The congregation wore black lapel ribbons as a symbol of mourning. Residents Barbara, Isobel and John were bestowed the honour of laying the wreath next to the Jubilee tree, which was planted in June with the help of the Droitwich Mayor for ‘The Queen’s Green Canopy’ initiative. John, who served The Queen in the Army during his National Service, proudly wore his military cap as he saluted Her Majesty for the last time.

“Our residents have been saddened by the passing of The Queen; it was a deeply emotional day, but it was important to our residents that they were able to pay their respects and celebrate her life of service and lasting legacy.”
Everyone watched the televised funeral service before enjoying a quintessentially British afternoon tea. During the period of mourning, a portrait of the monarch was displayed in the home for residents to pay their respects, while an engaging programme of Royal-themed activities enabled residents to reminisce on The Queen’s illustrious reign.
